Randy Couture has been around in the UFC for a long, long time, but after April 30th, fight fans will be forced to say goodbye to ” The Natural” as he recently announced the upcoming fight against Lyoto Machida would be his last.
The three-time former Heavyweight champion is the oldest contender in the UFC at 47 years of age as well as a member of the UFC Hall of Fame. He has been with the organization since 1997 with a total of 29 fights, 19 wins. Couture has also won numerous awards during his MMA career including Fights of the Year and Most Championship Fights.
Speculation had been stirring for months that this would be the last fight of Couture’s long-lived run with the UFC. He confirmed this news by saying he wanted to retire on his own terms rather than being forced into retirement. He also stated that the retirement had been a long time coming.
Couture’s final fight will take place at Rogers Centre in Toronto on April 30th in front of a sold-out crowd of 55,000 hardcore UFC fans. Whether he wins or loses this fight, Couture says that he has fun during his time with the UFC and is happy with his life. Nothing could be more important than that.
