All UFC fighters are tough men who work hard at what they do, regardless of their win-loss record. The list that follows is one take on the top 10 UFC fighters in the history of the sport:

Tim Sylvia10) Tim Sylvia is one of the most decorated fighters. He won the heavyweight title twice and recorded wins over Andrei Arloyski, Jeff Monson and Ricco Rodriguez.

9) Dan Severn‘s career included wins over Oleg Taktaroy and Ken Shamrock. He was winning tournaments when the UFC was in single-digit event numbers.

8.) Ken Shamrock is a phenomenal athlete who beat Severn, Patrick Smith and Kemo, but fell to Tito Ortiz in the Light Heavyweight Championship match in 2002.

Rich Franklin7) In the 1990s Don Frye won his first six fights and had a career that included wins over Tank Abbott and Gary Goodridge. Frye is known as one of the toughest fighters ever in the sport.

6) Rich Franklin taught math before entering the octagon, and beat some of the biggest names in the sport. He competes at the light heavyweight level, and knocked out Chuck Liddell in June.

5) “Intensity” is Mark Coleman‘s middle name, and helped him earn a spot in the top five. His style has taken on an on-the-mat wrestling theme and that has led him to success over top fighters.

4) Tito Ortiz makes the top five for his skill at controlling opponents and racking up wins over the likes of Shamrock and Wanderlei Silva. He has a record of 15-8-1.

Matt Hughes3) Randy Couture is one of the older stars on the list and is one of the best ever. He has one of the best careers in the history of the sport and a record of 19-10.

2) Chuck Liddell ranks high, with 21 wins and 13 KOs. He won the Light Heavyweight title and beat the biggest names in the business.

1) Nine-time Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes rates at the top of the list due to his sheer dominance. His game has been slipping and Hughes is reportedly considering retirement, but has a record of 45-8 with 17 KOs and 18 submissions.
